WHY Speaker Cables?
Speaker wire is a two-conductor cable that is used to connect amplifiers to speakers. Ideally speaker wire should have a minimal amount of resistance, capacitance and inductance. These are largely dependent on the length and gauge of the wire and must be matched to the impedance of the speaker. The longer the length of the wire, the thicker the wire should be to reduce power loss. For instance, if you have an 8 Ohm speaker and you want to run a wire that is 12 feet, you only need a 22 gauge wire. If you want to run it a greater distance like 80 feet, you’ll need a thicker, 14 gauge wire. A smaller gauge number equals a larger diameter.
