There is nothing, I repeat, nothing worse than tinny speakers. All that. . . I hesitate to call it, sound, can really get in the way of an enjoyable listening experience. Your favorite music can turn to utter crap if you don’t have the right speakers. That’s why, if your speakers sound this way, you should throw them to the wolves and get yourself new and improved speakers.
Experts (when I say experts, I mean me) say that you should spend approximately half of what you planned to spend on your entire stereo system on your speakers alone. Sure, that’s a lot of cash, but what’s the most important part of your stereo system? Oh yeah... the SPEAKERS!
Here are a few things to think about when you’ve finally decided to get rid of those old, tinny speakers. You’ll need to be on the lookout for:
Sound Quality
Size
Connectivity
Price
How wonderful would it be if we could forget about prices, and just buy the best sounding speakers? Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. Many of us need to work within some sort of budget. That’s why, your first course of action should be to do the math, and come up with an amount you’re willing to spend. This way, when you’re comparing speakers, you can make your search less strenuous by quickly eliminating the speakers that fall beyond your price range. Trust me, you wouldn’t want to waste time reading about the amazing speaks you can’t afford. That will only depress you.
Now, in my opinion the sound quality is THE most important aspect of any speaker. That’s why I despise those tinny pieces of crap. Ew. I like a rich and full bodied sound to my speakers. I like to be able to shift the bass and have the speakers still sound great, not shaky, vibrating, and weird.
When you buy online, you obviously won’t be able to hear all of the different models, but what you can do is read the reviews of those who have. This is a wonderful way to get a good idea of which speakers will be right for you and your music. We have many reviews up currently, and we’re always adding new ones. So, be sure to check back regularly.
For many people, especially those with limited space to work with, the size of the speakers is also very important. Today, you can find a speaker to suit any set of needs. There are tower speakers, bookshelf ones, teeny tiny micro ones (which, by the way, are often super good), and even wicked surround sound speakers that come in different sizes. Take a good look at the room you want to plant your speakers in and decide what you think will best suit your space and design. Then check out some of the different styles we have listed. This will really go a long way in helping you make up your mind.
One of the most neglected aspects of stereo shopping is the connector. The better your connectors are, the better the sound will be. The reason for this is that there will be more surface area for the signals to travel from the stereo to the speakers. Sounds pretty basic, right? Good. Don’t forget this, because once you have your music blaring, it’s easy for cheap connectors to come loose. Get good ones, attach them tightly, and you’ll have a much better time listening to your favorite tunes.
I have used and tried out a ton of different speakers over the years and the one thing I have found is that there are some super crappy ones out there that still cost an arm and a leg. Here are some of the speakers I like in different price ranges. I have put this list together in hopes of helping everyone find some speakers that they can enjoy:
Approx $30
AudioSource LS100 Four-inch Full Range Indoor/Outdoor Speakers
These speakers can be used indoors or outdoors and they are a great convenient size. They are only four inches with means they are light and easy to move around. They are pretty tiny but their bass is really good for the size and especially for the price.
Approx $100 Range –
JBL Northridge N24AWII 2-Way Weather-Resistant Bookshelf Speakers
These I like for several reasons, number one they sound good, two they are not that expensive compared to many out there and three their total versatility. These cool speakers are totally weather resistant which means that you can take them outside to help liven up your next pool party.
Approx $500
Logitech Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System ( 970181-0403 )
This is a great set with some rear wireless speakers. You know what wireless means right? It means less clutter and less tangly bits all over. The remote control rocks too!
Approx $1000
Mission M-Cube 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System
Aaahhh, this is the home theater system that is going to make listening to music and watching movies fun again. These little tiny cubes can be put all over the room for total surround sound. They are so darn small that they take up virtually no room at all.
No one needs to live with tinny speakers, I used to do it and it sucked. If you’ve been suffering from this predicament, today is the day to end it all. Take the bull by the horns and put those speakers out of their misery once and for all!
