WHY Surround Sound System?
Surround sound systems are comprised of a playback unit (such as a DVD player), a receiver and an array of multiple speakers that used together create an immersive audio experience. These systems are meant to play back programs with many channels of recorded audio. Surround sound can be played back from several formats including DVD, DVD-A, SACD, and MP3 surround. The most common set-up for a surround system is 5.1 surround sound. This takes advantage of left and right speakers in the front of the listener, left and right surround speakers behind the listener, a center speaker between the left and right speakers and a subwoofer to handle super-low frequencies. In effect, this arrangement gives the listener a feeling of being surrounded by the sound and thus more thoroughly immersed in the experience.
