The Klipsch Synergy Quintet II 5-Pack is an amazing value that offers incredible performance.
I had high hopes for the Klipsch Synergy Quintet II 5-Pack
and my expectations were happily met head on. Make no mistake, this is not a
home theater kit exactly, or even a surround sound kit, the Quintet II 5 pack
is just a set of five speakers to plug into your existing or newly pieced
together audio system.
There is no included amp, receiver, or disk changer and
because these are just speakers your sound will vary depending on the type of
amp you hook them up to. I would suggest the best you can afford; the Klipsch
speakers can handle a lot of power, and the more you pump in, the better the
performance is going to be.
Unlike many “home theater” speakers the Klipsch are capable
of faithfully reproducing audio from both music and DVD sources. The speakers
dual cone design ensures excellent audio separation and insanely clear highs.
This type of clarity will only come from separating the tweeter from the main
cone. The nimbleness of the audio also benefits from the cone separation. Having
two drivers allows the speaker to respond more quickly to changing frequencies.
Think of it like this: does it take longer for one person to run up 10 floors,
or two people to run up five floors? They are still covering the same distance
(audio spectrum), but with two of them splitting the distance the work gets
done twice as fast.
There are a couple notable drawbacks to the Klipsch Synergy
Quintet II 5-Pack-- these are not fatal flaws, just minor annoyances. The lack
of a hardware equalizer is a bit of a pain depending on what you hook your
speakers up to. If you are hooking them up to a home theater it's no big deal,
but if you are hooking them up to a computer, as I was, then you have to rely
on software tools for handling the EQ.
It is also worth noting that this is a 5 speaker set, not a
5.1 speaker set, meaning there is no subwoofer. Adding a subwoofer to meet the
quality of these speakers would have added about $300+ to the price tag, so
it's not really a bad thing, plus you now have the option of buying a sub that
is a perfect match for the intended room (a real bonus for audiophiles).
If you are looking to upgrade your existing home theater
setup it will be difficult to find a better deal then the Klipsch Synergy
Quintet II 5-Pack. You can find cheaper sets that include a subwoofer, but they
wont be able to match the quality.
