Speakers sound good indoors and outdoors, but lack in the bass department.
I think it is pretty safe to say that most people looking
for outdoor speakers are not looking for the kind of sound that is going to
blow their neighbors out of bed— unless they like to have the cops called that
is. The AudioSource LS400 indoor / outdoor speakers are perfectly respectable
and will suit most people very well when used outside. They have nice sound
that is perfect as background music for barbecues and
get-togethers. While they are not powerful or earth shaking, they will
fill an indoor room with sound. You should be aware that these speakers are not
made for use with a computer so they do need an amp to hook up to.
I really like the size of these speakers; they are perfect
for packing between indoors and outdoors. They are nice and small at only 8.5 x
5.9 x 5.5 inches and they are very versatile. They can sit on a table, on the
ground, mounted to a wall, or even under the eaves. Their
swivel feature makes it easy to adjust the directionality even after they are mounted. They do have color matched
brackets, so there is a funny, cheap looking contrast to contend with.
It should also be said that contrary to popular belief, water
resistance is not the same thing as waterproof. These speakers, for instance,
are weather resistant and they do fine outside and can withstand a little
moisture here and there, but they cannot be left outside in the rain with no
protection. If you want to keep these speakers outside, you better make sure
that they are in a spot that is protected from rain and snow.
The AudioSource LS400 can handle 100 watts per channel and
have a great 4-inch reinforced polypropylene woofer and 3/4-inch polycarbonate
tweeter. When you combine that with the fact that they have gold plated binding
post terminals, you know that you are getting powerful and high fidelity sound
all the time. The sound is nice and clear, but don’t try to push the bass on them
too much— that could lead to some distortion.
These are good speakers, especially since they are
relatively cheap and versatile. They are not the best on the market, but they
will fill a room with good sound and give nice and respectable sound even outside
in wide open spaces.
It is nice to know that good things really do come in small
packages!
