The Good

The TSS450PLT's shiny finish will appeal to people caught up in the glossy white trend, or anyone with a beige living room. Solid performance and musical bass makes these speakers an excellent choice for people new to component audio and not in need of overly boomy bass.

The Bad

People wanting truly earth shaking strong bass will be disappointed and will need to look elsewhere. The gloss white finish is not as understated as the more traditional black and silver finishes found on most other speakers. Being on the bold side, these speakers may not fit with everyone’s decor.

My personal issues with gloss white finishes aside, these are perfectly good speakers. Not enthusiast speakers, but perfect for the average homeowner. Solid construction and an attractive price point will make these a welcome addition to many family rooms.

Who Doesn’t Need Some More Gloss White Electronics?

These speakers have good versatility and while they may not rattle the windows with their bass, they offer plenty enough booming for me.

Question: What do you get when you cross an iPod with a 5.1 speaker set?

Answer: the Infinity TSS-450 Home Theater Speaker System.

The TSS-450 is one of many gloss white speaker sets that I have come across in recent years. It's not that I don't like the gloss white look, I think it's rather attractive; the problem is that what was once classy is now overly exposed. Nowadays, everything that has a microchip and electronic pulse is released in gloss white, and frankly I’m tired of it. However, I understand that not everyone feels this way, so in the interest of fairness I will ignore the Infinity's finish and focus on audio performance.

Skipping my usual intense Matrix DVD evaluation, I left the Infinity's fate up to chance and just hit play on my DVD player, not knowing what was loaded. Apparently my youngest child used the DVD player last as I will be using The Little Mermaid to evaluate the speakers. Interestingly enough, The Little Mermaid turned out to be a perfect testbed for this set.

I found that the subwoofer was not underpowered, but it was not boomy either, making it perfect for a musical. The satellites are clear and accurate, imparting rich tones to the midrange frequencies and the center channel handled voices well. These are not speakers you would use to listen to the latest techno or hip hop CD, but for television, movies, and non-booming music, they actually work quite well.

The price of these speakers is set right where it should be, any higher would be too much and any lower would probably not come with a subwoofer. These are a great solution for homeowners looking to put together their first component audio system.

Audiophiles will want to go for something more expensive than the Infinity TSS-450, but you could definitely do a lot worse then these if you are new to the game. Okay I admit it, I’m sold on the gloss white too, I tried to fight it but call me a sucker for a shiny finish.
