The Bad
Lack of descriptive information on products. $12.99 charge for a 30-minute call with the Creative Tutor Support Line after the first 60 days of free help.
The Verdict
The company that originally made solely sound cards for your computer is now an electronic giant and is offering many innovative products, including speakers and systems. While shopping online with Creative Labs is fun, the charge for technical support after 60 days is a bummer.
From their early days with the Sound Blaster sound cards, Creative has been working hard to drive digital entertainment on the PC platform. With speakers from such name brands as X-Fi, Gigaworks, and Travelsound, the selection is decent just lacking in more well known brands associated with audio electronics.
The site is easy to use and definitely simple when it comes to locating speakers. With a tab specifically dedicated to speakers alone, those interested in browsing or searching for a particular pair are sure to be satisfied. The product descriptions are very clear and informative and pricing is consistent with other retailers offering the same or similar products. While there are multiple pictures per product, Creative Labs does not advertise their costs per speakers well. When we looked at the Creative Inspire® P7800 speakers, we were shocked by the need to click “buy now” to see their price. There is additional incentive to shop with Creative Labs as free shipping is offered for orders over $99. While the price for free shipping is large, purchasing speakers alone usually covers the fee.
We were generally satisfied with Creative Lab’s online shopping experience. Even though the site is easy to navigate and the corporation is a well known vendor, we could not help but be disappointed with their lack of consumerism.
