There is really nothing like Ebay; it has brought commerce to a whole new level allowing everyone to be a retailer. If you are looking for something rare, new, used, or cheap, Ebay can introduce you to a huge network of stores and individuals.
It’s kind of a crapshoot as to whether or not you’ll find what you want on any given day. Also, many times you are dealing with individuals, not stores, so you are opening yourself up to dealing with countless shipping methods, return policies, etc.
Ebay is great for finding rare stuff, products that are off the market or just things you might never even knew existed. For a community of buyers and sellers exchanging items through auctions and fixed prices, there is nothing else like it.
OnSpeakers.com Editor's Review
eBay
Most people have had some experience with Ebay. It pretty much allows anyone to make some money off of their old stuff and provides a massive network of sellers to find any number of things. When looking for speakers, I found a bunch of Genelec studio monitors at several different retailers, all used but in good condition for various prices. I also found a brand new pair of Epos ELS303 Speakers for $585 whereas musicdirect.com sells them for about $700. For fun, I decided to look up Vintage speakers and turned up more than six hundred pairs of antique cabinets.

>>> See all eBay Speaker Coupons and Deals <<<Ebay has so much stuff, it’s a bit overwhelming and you won’t always find what you want right away, but half the fun of it is finding stuff that you never even knew that you wanted. As for vintage gear, this is a great place to find it. It’s like a virtual garage sale and if you’re good at it, you might get some killer deals on valuable stuff. If you can’t find what you want, however, there is a good chance you will find it if you check back in a few days. The market is in a constant state of flux.
Ebay sells some items with its ‘buy it now’ option, but what it is known for is its auctions. When you have your eye on something, you will be competing with other buyers and it is good to have a strategy to increase your chances of winning any particular item. There is an evaluation system in place to rate retailers on Ebay, so you can make sure that you are not going to be taken for a ride by some random dude in Omaha, but I suppose the risk is always there. You also have to take into account that you are at the whim of individual’s shipping and return policies and there is no universal customer service or technical support.
