WHY Subwoofers?
A subwoofer is a driver that is used to reproduce the lowest of the low frequencies within the spectrum of sound. It is larger than other speakers and generally handles frequencies below 120 Hz, adding sonic depth to everything from music to movies. A subwoofer is a great addition to a sound system as other speakers, especially smaller ones, cannot generate frequencies this low. For surround sound applications, this would be the speaker where sounds such as thunder, the rumble of a volcanic eruption or an explosion would get their body from.
